"A Nightmare On Elm Street" (2010) Focused Analysis

Music & Sound Effects
The Trailer's introduction has a significant play on sound from the ambiance of the opening scene which consists of a man's fleeing footsteps and his heavy breathing being heard overlapping fast paced beats which instigate a chase sequence. This is anti-conventional of a Horror Trailer as the action and tension generally tends to build from the introduction instead of immediate initiation.

After this sequence, the eerie elements of the Trailer begin to come into the piece as sinister pounds can be heard repetitively overlaying the voices from the characters within beginning to unravel the plot. This section within the Soundtrack is only heard for a maximum of 10 seconds which builds on the tension of the Trailer. At 1:00 a new overlay can be heard which conveys through echo a child chanting a nursery rhyme which can be seen as quite haunting and eerie as it makes the Audience think a child will be involved or possibly hurt, something which makes Audiences feel uncomfortable and uneasy to view. This chanting can be heard throughout the majority of the second half of the Trailer which builds on the Tension and anxieties of the Audience as the Music begins to speed up, the chants getting louder, the Sounds from the ambiance become heavier and louder (some of these sounds making the Audience's skin crawl e.g. The scratches from the claws of the Antagonist creating a 'nails on the chalkboard' effect), These Sounds include screaming, running, glass smashing etc.

The finalising moments of the Trailer gain the most momentum as the Music loses the beats and the Audience finally hear a voiceover from the Antagonist, this specific moment being played on and waited for throughout. This is a very dark & chilling moment to end the Trailer with yet underlaying his vocal can be heard ear-wrenching screeches which make the Audience feel on edge, making them think it is the noises in which the Antagonist makes with his claws. This frightening ultimatum of the Trailer is a hugely popular, significant yet conventional way to end a Horror Trailer as it is the best way to get the Audience to feel nervous and in terror yet gets them to want to go and see the film to find out the plot in full.

Setting
The film trailer opens with various establishing shots of a dark, dank, and smog consumed factory which appears as the core of the plot, strongly conventional of the Horror Variety as it conveys to the audience a dark and cynical environment for the story to unfold. It makes the audience more aware of the past & creation of the antagonist of the film, and where he became what he is. This is not stereotypical of the Horror Genre for this trailer specifically, as it gives the audience a strong in-sight of the film's antagonist, something which is generally not learned within the trailer. It seems that the core elements of the film will focus upon this factory which has been introduced, as there are various other conventional shots which are placed within the atmosphere of the factory. Not only is it obvious that the film trailer is set within a neighbourhood called "Elm Street", but also multiple shots unveil this community to us. It is typical of a Horror-styled piece to be based around a dark and twisted cul-de-sac which is oppressed by this infamous legend causing people to live in fear. Other locations which create the environment of the film are places such as an abandoned pre-school and multiple households of the protagonists within the Movie and locations such as Diners.
